Indeed, the sites of the satellite units of the EPSMA in the sector have coincided, in many cases, with the sites of the other establishments of the Champagne Sud hospitals: the satellite centers of the EPSMA in Bar-sur-Aube and Bar-sur-Seine (for children) are, respectively, located on the sites of the Bar-sur-Aube and Bar-sur-Seine hospital centers. It would, therefore, be possible to think of the hospital center fleet being shared with the EPSMA teams.
Moreover, as concerns the pooling of services, a study carried out in the Troyes HC in 2016 showed, for example, that of the two vehicles allocated to the palliative care unit, both vehicles were in use only once every 4 days and all other days a single vehicle sufficed for the unit’s requirements. This example illustrates an obvious potential for pooling. Nonetheless, the difficulty resides in any immediate and unforeseen requirement for the vehicles that might come up, given that they are used by the palliative care units. This team may need to use a vehicle on a sudden, unplanned basis, for instance, to respond to an emergency assessment of the health of a patient who may potentially require palliative care at home. These demands, however, do not completely preclude the possibility of sharing resources: pooling remains possible with, perhaps, the systematic sharing of one of the vehicles used by the palliative care unit with other departments, based on a specific schedule, and by reserving the second vehicle on a priority basis for palliative care.
